The Best Non-Alcoholic Wines, Beers, Spirits and Aperitifs of 2025
2024 was the year that alcohol alternatives have exploded onto the scene. We’ve a lot to thank Seedlip for - the brand that brought premium, non-alcoholic spirits to our attention back in 2015. Since then, we’ve seen fantastic options appear across most price points and covering all styles of booze from wine and beer to spirits and liqueurs. And while there’s an excellent choice of drinks that aren’t trying to pretend to be well-known tipples like whisky, rum and gin out there, those of us who really want that classic flavour profile need not be disappointed. My picks of the best non-alcoholic drinks are below, but first, some thoughts:
Beer is smashing it as far as the sheer amount of delicious, affordable options are concerned, whether you’re after IPA, stout, weissbier or simply want a decent lager. Some big names are even making delicious booze free beer that you can have a pint of in the pub. We’re also seeing some exciting developments with traditional beer styles that involve the addition of natural plant extracts like Lion’s Mane or ‘GABA’ enhancing yeasts aimed at enlivening or relaxing us, giving that two-drink effect without the harm of booze.
Wine doesn’t quite fare so well, however - on the still side, at least. Sparkling vino seems to be a lot more forgiving of the harsh process needed to remove alcohol, which can leave flavours tasting cooked and unfresh. And with spirits, it’s clear that the alcohol-free versions are largely made to be mixed. It’s very rare to find anything you would want to sip neat, so splurge on some decent tonic and get in some good ginger beer and cola. Also, the styles that traditionally have a punchier aromas, such as gin but also, spiced rum rather than golden or white and bourbon rather than scotch, tend to do better as there’s more flavour to play with. Having said that, tequila and agave spirits aren’t there at all yet quality-wise from what I have found, but I suspect someone is about to launch a decent one!
There’s good news for fans of classic, Italian aperitivo and digestivo styles, be they bittersweet, orange-scented, Aperol-alikes or the dark and herbaceous ‘amaro’ styles will find some truly excellent alternatives. Their combination of sweetness with lots of complex, flavoursome, bitter herbs and sweet spices allow for that all important viscous mouthfeel and authentic kick on the back of the palate.
One thing to note is that with any of these where booze has been removed, there may be some residual alcohol there, up to 0.5% ABV, though these are legally still defined as alcohol free. If this is an issue, always check the label.
Here are some HelenaSips approved alcohol-free wines, beers, spirits and aperitifs to tickle your fancy:
ALCOHOL FREE BEER
Peroni Nastro Azzurro 0.0% Alcohol Free Beer, 330ml, £1.31 Sainsbury’s
For me, nothing beats the citrusy simplicity of the booze-free Peroni. It’s absolutely cracking - so much like the real thing and even better for being available on draft in many pubs nowadays.
Guinness 0.0% Alcohol Free Draught Stout, 440ml, £1.25 Tesco
In terms of tasting like the real thing, Guinness has absolutely nailed their non-alc version and it’s also excellent value. If you’re a fan of the black stuff, you should be very happy with this!
Impossibrew Enhanced Lager, 440ml, from £2.59 impossibrew.co.uk
Impossibrew caught my eye on Dragon’s Den and I’ve never looked back. Fresh and hoppy, this tastes like a really good, light lager and even better, it works with GABA technology to give you a gentle buzz.
ALCOHOL FREE SPARKLING WINE
Kylie Minogue Alcohol Free Sparkling Rose, £7 Sainsbury’s
Fruity, fun and frothy like the Pop Princess herself, this non-alcoholic version of Kylie’s pink fizz is remarkably drinkable, though a tad sweet. Think raspberry pink refreshers with a pop of strawberry.
M&S Alcohol Free Fizzero Rosé, £6 M&S and Ocado
I saw this pop up at a few parties recently and when I tasted it, I realised why. It’s one of the freshest, most authentic versions out there for the price and not too sugary either. The bottle is also smart, which helps.
Della Vite Zero, £12.49, The Bottle Club
Cara and Poppy Delavigne’s Prosecco has become a hit despite its punchy price point and this non-alcoholic version is set to do the same. Well balanced and fresh tasting, this has a lovely, strawberry sherbet vibe.
French Bloom Le Blanc Organic French Non-Alcoholic Bubbly, £32 MouseandGrape.com
While this fine fizz might be a fair whack more expensive than many, it will not disappoint. Super crisp and refreshing with notes of melon, pear and zesty citrus, you can tell it was made by people who have spent a lifetime crafting Champagne.
ALCOHOL FREE WHISKEY & WHISKY
Lyres American Malt, £23.99 , Lyres.co.uk
To be honest, if I could put Lyres in every category, I would. Their spirit-alikes are a cut above and this version does a great impression of a smoky, vanilla-scented bourbon. Drink it mixed, not straight, though.
Feragaia, £24.95, Ocado
With a very complex nose and palate thanks to extracts like cayenne pepper, blackcurrant leaf, seaweed, kaffir lime and hibiscus, this is a serious smoky scotch alternative, complete with that kick of heat on the finish.
Rebels Blend Alcohol Free Whiskey, £24.99 wisebartender.co.uk
Fans of sweeter, bourbon style spirits will appreciate the caramel and vanilla hit with this, which is balanced up by some pleasant woody notes. The bottle looks the part too. A good one with coke and proper mocktails.
NON-ALCOHOLIC GIN
ASDA Extra Special Non Alcoholic Botanical Drink, £10 ASDA
ASDA made the right choice getting industry guru Angela Mount in to craft this range of non-alcs and this gin alternative is actually nicer, I think, than many cheap ‘real’ gins out there. A beautifully balanced, botanical blend.
Greysons Alcohol Free London Dry Gin, £8.99 Aldi
Sometimes the cheapie dupes absolutely nail it and Greyson's does a very good, if not very subtle impression of Gordon’s London Dry for the very low price tag. Drink it with a premium tonic and you’ll be very happy.
Pentire Seaward, £27.80 Pentiredrinks.com
Pentire pride themselves on crafting drinks that aren’t trying to be specific, non-alcoholic options but this ocean-fresh blend will appeal to lovers of premium gin with its long list of savoury and aromatic botanicals. Beautiful.
ALCOHOL FREE RUM
Caleño Dark & Spicy Alcohol Free Rum Alternative, £18 Ocado
Caleño’s vibrant and tropical rum alternative is a delight! Packed full of sweet spices and notes of pineapple, orange peel and coconut with a kick of warming ginger on the finish, give this a go with coke or ginger beer.
Ish Caribbean Spiced Spirit, Alcohol Free Rum, £17.99 wisebartender.co.uk
A lot of thought has gone into making this rather delicious, dealcoholised rum, including the addition of Indonesian nutmeg, baked apple chilli seeds for a kick of heat of the finish. A lovely viscosity too and fabulous when mixed.
Fluère Spice Cane Dark Roast Non Alcoholic Spirit, £20 Ocado, thelightdrinker.com
As far as good looking bottles go, this one's a winner - and what’s inside isn’t bad either. There’s a lovely mocha note and a hint of the kind of earthiness that you get from agricole rhum. Great with lime and ginger beer.
NON ALCOHOLIC APERITIVO
Crodino Non Alcoholic Aperitivo, £2 Sainsbury’s
If you’re a fan of Aperol and want a booze free option that will scratch that itch, Crodino is perfection. Part way between a spritz and a soft drink, you don’t even need to add anything to it. Fabulous and inexpensive.
Smiling Wolf Non-Alcoholic, Functional Aperitivo, £32 Smilingwolf.com
The Smiling Wolf brand has been a revelation. Not only do they make excellent drinks that when mixed taste very similar to the real thing, but they actually affect how you feel, by using GABA technology and Nootropics (more on this soon). This is a great non boozy Aperol type tipple with tonnes of bittersweet orange flavour.
Lyre's Italian Orange, £17.99 on offer Lyres.co.uk
With its rich, viscous mouthfeel and strong, authentic Italian flavours of blood orange and bitter citrus, this Aperol-alike is so good, you’d be pushed to tell it was booze-free even if you chose not to mix it.
Botivo Botanical Aperitivo, £27.50 Botivodrinks.com
Fans of delightfully dark and bitter Amaro will love this herbaceous, complex and concentrated, bittersweet aperitivo. Even better, is that it’s all natural ingredients too! Try it with soda or tonic and a slice of orange.
